Bacterial infections of the vagina, stomach or intestines, liver, skin, joints, brain, heart, and respiratory tract are treated with metronidazole. Another skin condition called rosacea is treated with metrogel, or topical metronidazole. Bacterial vaginal infections can also be treated with vaginal metronidazole gel.
