Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, often known as Vireof, is used in conjunction with other antiviral medications to treat HIV infections. In adult patients with compensated liver disease, it is also used to treat chronic (long-term) hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, which is characterized by histological signs of active inflammation and fibrosis as well as persistently increased (ALT) viral replication.
