A prescription drug called esomeprazole is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD. It is also used to prevent ulcers brought on by NSAIDs and the Helicobacter pylori bacterium, as well as to repair acid-induced damage to the esophageal lining. This medication is a member of the proton pump inhibitor class. They work by reducing the production of stomach acid.
